Creative Development
This was a open brief for a subject the saw to develop the more fine arts part of a creatives abilities. Due to it being open I chose to do something a little strange and observant as this is very much in my nature. This project is based on the theory of observational learning, whereby it is believed that we learn through watching other people, and self correction where and individual would attempt to create their ideal self, particularly looking at character exchange.
Character exchange is the idea where an individul is attracted to another due to them having desirable characteristics that the individual lacks, and through social interaction we learn and pick up these characteristics from others in our own lives. This can be alikened to the theory of Imargo where couples are attracted to one another based on their characteristics and the ones in which they lack.
For the illustration and visulisation of these ideas I have chosen to illustrate characteristics I have picked up from others as well as characteristics I wish to one day learn in the future. These six characteristics that I had chosen were then associated with six everyday objects that I felt represented these characteristics. These objects were then etched by hand into sheets of ckear perspex. The reason for this medium choice is due to my developed skill with the medium and process of etching into perspex. This process is also symbolic of the process and learning an individual must go through in order to learn something new that is not within their nature. Almost like scratching into the serface to create something new.
When all the sheets of perspex are placed ontop of one another, the images morph and create a new image which is symbolic of the new person that is created through observational learning and characteristic exchange.
